The Bose Smart Soundbar is designed for customers looking for better performance for all their movies, music, and gaming. The compact soundbar provides spacious/immersive sound leveraging Dolby Atmos decoding. And for non-Atmos encoded content, Bose TrueSpace spatial processing provides an immersive experience. Plus, all the dialogue will be amazingly clear and crisp with A.I. Dialogue Mode, which automatically senses when dialogue is occurring and adjusts the tonal balance to improve the clarity of spoken words in all content without sacrificing immersive elements and effects.

Voice control comes built in via Amazon Alexa (where available). Or you can connect Smart Soundbar with a Google Home device to access Google Assistant. Not just for movies and TV, the soundbar can also stream all your music via Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi®, Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, and Spotify Connect.

The soundbar is part of the Bose Smart Home family of products that you can group together for a whole-home, multi-room listening experience. It’s packed with other Bose-exclusive technologies like Voice4Video technology, which gets you to your favourite shows with one simple voice command, and Bose SimpleSync, which lets you connect the soundbar with compatible Bose headphones or Bose Bluetooth® speakers.

While the Bose Smart Soundbar sounds great by itself, you can add an optional wireless Bose bass module and/or wireless Bose surround speakers to get even more performance and a full 5.1 experience. You can even pair it with the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds for a personal surround experience, where the earbuds add an immersive layer to the dynamic audio your soundbar delivers.

The Smart Soundbar is similar in many ways to the Smart Soundbar 600, but has A.I. Dialogue Mode that automatically senses when dialogue is occurring and adjusts the tonal balance to improve the clarity of spoken words in all content without sacrificing immersive elements and effects. It also has the Personal Surround feature, which allows you to pair the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds with your soundbar to add new dimension to your movies and TV. Acting as rear surround speakers, the open earbuds add an immersive layer to the dynamic audio your soundbar delivers.

A.I. is implemented to allow your soundbar to know the difference between spoken word/speech and other sounds that fall within the same frequency range. This allows your content to present clearer dialogue that can otherwise be overpowered by accompanying background effects. Rather than simply reducing background effects and increasing centre-channel content (a one-time adjustment regardless of content), A.I. Dialogue Mode ensures you can more clearly hear the dialogue in your video content dynamically throughout your viewing experience and as your viewing content changes.

Yes. For those who prefer to have dialogue resemble the original production intent, A.I. Dialogue Mode is enabled and disabled using the Bose App.

No. Currently processing capability in the soundbar electronics is limited to providing Personal Surround to one listener.

Personal Surround is a feature unique to open-ear listening only, because it allows the listener to hear their soundbar as they normally would; headphones or earbuds will occlude your ear from hearing the soundbar and therefore prevent a three-dimensional surround experience.

SimpleSync is a great way to hear all your video content, in stereo, through a pair of Bose headphones, earbuds, or open earbuds. Resembling the “grouping” feature where audio can be shared across Bose products, you can listen to your video content through a Bose wearable product when you don’t want to disturb others with your video. Personal Surround, on the other hand, uses the benefit of an open earbud to act as supplementary audio experience to the Bose Smart Soundbar, as if you had surround speakers installed in the room. As such, the effect that the Ultra Open Earbuds are providing is a subtle accompaniment to the primary content, like surround speakers offer in a home theatre, bringing more dimension to explosions, soft wind noises, whispers, etc. that may be in your video content.

Elevate every experience

Dolby Atmos, exclusive Bose TrueSpace technology, and upward-firing transducers deliver shockingly immersive sound for a soundbar of this size.

Dolby Atmos & Bose TrueSpace

Dolby Atmos is a game-changer for bringing cinema-like immersion into your living room. But while the library is growing, most content is not Atmos-encoded. For full immersion all the time, there’s Bose TrueSpace technology. It intelligently analyzes what you’re watching and upmixes signals other than Atmos to create a multi-channel experience. So even 5.1 and stereo content get an added layer of immersion and realistic height effects.¹

A.I. Dialogue Mode

No more too-loud commercials, too-quiet whispers, and riding the remote between hearing the plot and feeling the action. A.I. Dialogue Mode automatically balances voice and surround sound for ultra-crisp vocal clarity — so you hear speech clearly without sacrificing the immersive elements and effects of a cinematic soundbar experience. Rewind less, enjoy more.

One app. Total control.

The Bose App holds the key to the best user experience possible, ensuring optimal functionality with regular software updates and access to the latest features. But that’s just the beginning — see how the Bose App maximizes everything your soundbar has to offer.

  • Quick and easy guided setup
  • Set preferences and shortcuts

Personal Surround Sound. Theater-like immersion.

While Smart Soundbar delivers impressive immersion on its own, achieving true surround sound typically requires investing in a full home theatre system. Enter Personal Surround Sound, a breakthrough innovation that allows an individual user to pair Smart Soundbar with Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (sold separately) for amplified immersion — without additional equipment or setup.

This cutting-edge feature puts you in the centre of the onscreen action, adding a new dimension that makes subtle details come alive. The wind whips around you during a storm. The crackling campfire feels so real you can practically taste s’mores. With Personal Surround Sound, you can escape into a story anytime you want and enjoy a cinematic experience from the comfort of your living room.²

Ratings and Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, Powerful, and Easy to Set Up! I live in a 750 sq. ft. one-bedroom apartment, and this Bose soundbar has been an incredible addition to my space. The size and sound are ideal for smaller areas, and the installation was effortless—it took no time at all to set up. I use the soundbar for at least six hours every day, primarily for streaming music, gaming, and watching shows, and I’ve found the sound quality, especially for music, to be fantastic. It’s now my go-to listening device. One feature that really enhances the experience is the option to connect Ultra Open Earbuds, which add an extra level of immersion and quality. I also appreciate how seamlessly this soundbar integrates into my home setup—it’s perfect for a bedroom or smaller living room. For larger living rooms with premium TVs, I’d recommend considering the Bose Ultra Soundbar for an even more enhanced experience, but this soundbar still performs extremely well for the average user. While I do wish it came in white to match my apartment decor, that’s a small detail compared to the overall experience. It delivers impressive sound quality in a compact, easy-to-use package. These results will differ from person to person, but for most users, this soundbar is an excellent choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mid-level soundbar with a few extra features My normal device before this was a Sonos Ray. I was satisfied with the Sonos, but it's only output is Optical with no ability for HDMI hookups. I've used and owned many other soundbars and spent some time with the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar. The Ultra still fetches a price of around eight or nine hundred dollars and offers Bose's AdaptIQ (which I thought seemed a bit gimmicky before becoming a believer). This soundbar does not have this ability but does offer a few "extras" other devices may not. It seems to be a nice middle-of-the-road unit. There is room to expand the system with satellites and a sub, but it's not 100% necessary. I've been using mine in my bedroom and it works great for this purpose. I have it wall mounted and connected to my TV through eArc which gives me the benefit of having the soundbar turn on and off with my TV. I was able to easily pair my existing remote with it (using a Roku Ultra box/remote), which was very easy and intuitive with Bose's "Roku-Ready" capabilities. Pairing with the Bose app upon initial installation was quick and easy, and I have not experienced any connection issues or hiccups. There are also an optical input/standard Bose bass module output, and a port to plug in an IR blaster in case it's mounted behind the TV or in a cabinet, etc. I've had no issues with IR with the soundbar mounted above my TV and out of the way. You can also add a wireless Bose amp or wireless Bose speakers as well. This device can work as a standalone Alexa voice assistant, or can be easily integrated with Alexa and Google Home. The ability to cast from my android devices (AirPlay works for iPhones) and Bluetooth capabilities offer everything I'd ask for from a Soundbar. Ability to add "Groups" of Bose speakers from within the app is a nice plus (I have the soundbar "grouped" with my existing Bose Amp which pushes a couple Seinnheiser bookshelf speakers for when I want to listen to music a little louder. Unfortunately I'm unable to group this way from any HDMI output coming from the television. The volume can go fairly loud without too much distortion, although I have noticed it can become a little muddled. Using Bose AI dialogue mode really helps to keep any spoken word more pronounced and at the forefront of other noise or music when streaming video. This is very similar in size and style to the Bose Smart Soundbar 600 but has some extras such as the AI dialogue mode. The ability to set up "personal surround sound" using the still fairly new Bose Ultra Open Earbuds is a great feature- but currently these are the only earbuds that will work to achieve this because of their open design and Bose branding. You'll have to decide where to spend that money if you wish to update/upgrade your system from here. The Bose Smart Soundbar retails for $500 with another $300 price tag for the Ultra Open buds. In my opinion these earbuds are worth that price, but this review is for the 2024 Smart Soundbar. It's worth noting that these two can be bought as a bundle, but you'd only save a couple bucks this way. It'd be nice if they knocked like $50 off for the bundle. The Bose 600 Soundbar goes for about $450 brand new as of this writing, and I feel like the extra money is worth it when you account for these newer features only offered on this sound bar currently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleek and Packed with Powerful Sound I've been using the soundbar for a couple of weeks now and I can honestly say that it's made my home theater experience a lot more involved and fun. First, like many of Bose's products, this is a very cool looking product. I trust Bose to create beautiful hardware and this soundbar is no exception. I love the sleek form factor and its compact size is a perfect addition to my TV stand. It would be nice to have some kind of light indicator for volume but it's not a deal breaker since I can keep track of all of that via the mobile app. The sound quality is incredible. Whether I'm listening to streaming music or using the soundbar with my Apple TV or with my PS5, I'm blown away with how customizable sound can be. Dialog mode is a great tool to use across different streaming apps to help regulate sound levels and make it easier to understand movies and tv shows. I haven't experienced any connection issues with my eARC connection yet, which is a welcomed experience after using some less than reliable soundbars from other companies in the past.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Underwhelming at higher volumes As a long-time user of Bose products, I approached this soundbar with high expectations, given Bose’s reputation for delivering premium audio experiences. While the sound quality is generally good, I found it slightly underwhelming at higher volumes, though this might be expected from a compact soundbar of this size. One of the standout features of this soundbar is its AI-driven dialogue enhancement technology, which truly shines when streaming content from platforms like Netflix and Paramount. The dialogue clarity is notably crisp, making it easy to catch even the most subtle conversations in movies and shows. When setting it up with my Samsung TV, the installation process was smooth but required the HDMI ARC to be correctly detected, which may take a bit of troubleshooting for some users. The soundbar offers basic EQ adjustments, allowing you to tweak the bass, treble, center, and height channels. However, the EQ options are somewhat limited, especially for users who enjoy fine-tuning their audio experience. Despite this, the soundbar compensates with its impressive overall performance, particularly while streaming movies, playing games where the audio becomes much more immersive and full-bodied. Though the customization options could benefit from some enhancement, the hardware itself delivers a solid, reliable sound that most users will appreciate, especially in medium-sized rooms.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We're sold on Bose! Better than expected! We've been using this soundbar and earbuds for about 2 weeks now. At 1st I wasn't impressed UNTIL I fully understood how they worked in conjunction with each other and adjusted some settings. My wife and I both agree this soundbar is almost better than our Roku 5.1 surround sound. Doesn't have the bass our Roku surround sound has because it doesn't have a subwoofer, which is something we plan on adding in the future to the Bose soundbar, and probably some satellite speakers. The immersive audio is very impressive on the Bose soundbar. It is even better with the earbuds, but to me they're an inconvenience. I personally would rather have satellite speakers. I can definitely understand folks using the earbuds in smaller spaces that don't have the room for satellite speakers or for nighttime use to keep noise levels down. Music and movies sound great, but again, missing a bit from no subwoofer or satellite speakers. Still fantastic sound like you would expect from Bose. All in all, we're going to retire or Roku 5.1 surround sound and slowly build up our Bose system. I like it's compact size a lot! We had to put or Roku soundbar behind our tv due to it's size. The Bose Smart Soundbar can literally go to the edge of our entertainment center shelf and not block the tv at all. That's a huge plus. Can't forget about the AMAZING AI Dialog feature! Makes it much easier to hear folks on the tv speaking, especially when there is a lot of background noise in the shot. Overall a great budget soundbar that we look forward to building on!
